Pinpoint Test Ca - Temperature Gauge Display Blanks Out Thermometer Symbol, Displays 2 Top & 2 Bottom Bars

  1. Unplug connector from temperature sender, located on right side of engine near No. 1 fuel injector. Turn ignition on. Temperature gauge should indicate cold; only bottom bar should appear.
  2. If temperature gauge indication is not as specified, go to next step. If temperature gauge indication is as specified, replace temperature sender.
  3. Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect the wiring from temperature sender. Remove instrument cluster. Refer to ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENT CLUSTER (EIC)  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance between connector C2-2 pin No. 21 (Red/White wire) and connector C2-1 pin No. 4 (Black/Light Blue wire). See Figure .
  4. If resistance is greater than 15,000 ohms, replace instrument cluster. If resistance is less than 15,000 ohms, repair short on Red/White wire to temperature sender.
