Temp Gauge Always Indicates Cold (Bottom Bar Displayed)

Unplug connector to temperature sender. Connect jumper wire to ground in place of sender. Set ignition switch to RUN position. Top 2 and bottom 2 bars of gauge should be displayed. If top 2 and bottom 2 bars appear, remove jumper wire, and go to step 3).
If bars are not displayed, disconnect battery ground cable. Remove cluster. Connect jumper wire in place of temperature sender. Check continuity between cluster connector "A" terminals No. 4 (Red/White wire) and 8 (Orange/Yellow wire). See Figure . If continuity exists, replace cluster. If continuity does not exist, repair open in circuit No. 39 (Red/White wire) and/or temperature sender ground circuit.
Warm engine to normal operating temperature. Measure resistance of temperature sender. If resistance is less than 8000 ohms, replace cluster. If resistance is greater than 8000 ohms, go to next step.
Check cooling system (thermostat, coolant level, etc.) for proper operation. If cooling system is okay, replace temperature sender. If cooling system is not okay, service as necessary.
