Speedometer Indicates 0 Mph At All Speeds With Vehicle In Motion

  1. Set ignition switch to RUN position. Observe display (all segments on, then off and then to normal display). If segments do not operate properly, replace cluster.
  2. If segments operate properly, verify odometer advances when vehicle is driven forward. If odometer advances, replace cluster.
  3. If odometer does not advance, test drive vehicle. Select TRIP DISTANCE on fuel computer. Distance should advance as vehicle is driven. If distance advances, replace cluster. If distance does not advance, go to next step.
  4. Test drive vehicle and check operation of speed (cruise) control system. If speed control system operates properly, go to step 9).
  5. If speed control system does not operate or vehicle is not so equipped, unplug speed sensor connector. Using DVOM, measure resistance between 2 wires in harness to speed sensor. If resistance is less than 500 ohms, check wiring of circuit No. 150 (Dark Green/White wire), speed control and cluster for short circuits. See Figure .
  6. If resistance is greater than 500 ohms, use DVOM to measure resistance of speed sensor. Resistance should be 200-230 ohms. If resistance is not as specified, replace speed sensor, and recheck speedometer operation.
  7. If resistance is 200-230 ohms, remove speed sensor from transaxle. Ensure driven gear teeth are in good condition. Ensure retainer clip is present. If driven gear and/or retainer clip are not in good condition, replace as necessary.
  8. If driven gear and retainer clip are present and in good condition, check if drive gear is present on transaxle output shaft. If drive gear is present, go to next step. If drive gear is not present, service as necessary.
  9. Reconnect speed sensor wiring. Disconnect battery ground cable. Remove cluster. Using DVOM, measure resistance between cluster connector "A" terminals No. 8 (Orange/Yellow wire) and 12 (Dark Green/White wire). If resistance is 160-230 ohms, replace cluster. If resistance is not as specified, check connectors and/or wiring from cluster to speed sensor circuit No. 150 (Dark Green/White wire). Recheck speedometer operation.
