Distance To Empty Does Not Go Below 200 Miles With Fuel Tank Empty

  1. Ensure fuel gauge operates properly. If fuel gauge does not operate properly, go to CO DISPLAYED, GAUGE BLANKS OUT FUEL TANK SYMBOL & DISPLAYS TOP 2 & BOTTOM 2 BARS OF GAUGE or go to CS DISPLAYED, GAUGE BLANKS OUT FUEL TANK SYMBOL & DISPLAYS TOP 2 & BOTTOM 2 BARS OF GAUGE.
  2. If fuel gauge operates properly, verify speedometer operates properly. If speedometer does not operate properly, go to SPEEDOMETER INDICATES 0 MPH AT ALL SPEEDS WITH VEHICLE IN MOTION.
  3. If speedometer operates properly, verify continuity and absence of short circuits in circuit No. 305 between cluster connector "A" terminal No. 11 (Light Blue/Black wire) and Data Output Line terminal No. 34 at EEC-IV module connector. See Figure . If continuity does not exist or short circuits exist, repair circuit No. 305 as necessary.
  4. If continuity exists and short circuits do not exist, verify a DOL signal from EEC-IV module exists. With key off, connect breakout box to EEC-IV module or check for signal output at cluster connector "A" terminal No. 11 (Light Blue/Black wire). Start engine. Using DVOM, measure voltage at test pin No. 34 (DOL circuit) at breakout box or at connector "A" terminal No. 11. Voltage should be 10-12 volts.
NOTE: EEC-IV module computes fuel usage signal and transmits it over DOL circuit.
  5. If EEC-IV module signal on DOL circuit is present, replace EIC (fuel computer module). If signal is absent, replace EEC-IV module. Reconnect components, and retest system.
