Display Partially Lit Or Completely Blank
- Set ignition switch to RUN position. If all displays are blank, go to next step. If cluster is partially lit, check whether all segments except one selected go blank. If all segments except one selected are blank, system is functioning properly. If cluster except for selected segment is only partially blank, replace cluster.
- Check fuses No. 16 (circuit No. 797) and 5 (circuit No. 298). See Figure . If fuses are blown, go to next step. Go to step 4) if fuses are not blown.
- Turn ignition off. Disconnect battery ground cable. Connect ohmmeter from circuit with blown fuse to ground. If continuity does not exist, replace fuse. If continuity exists, repair short circuit to ground as required.
- Connect battery. Set ignition switch to RUN position. Measure voltage from circuits No. 797 and 298 to ground. If voltage on either circuit is less than 9 volts, repair open in fuse block.
- If voltage is greater than 9 volts for both circuits, remove cluster, but leave wiring connected. Set ignition switch to RUN position. Wiggle connectors "A" and "B" at rear of cluster. If connectors are loose, repair as necessary.
- If connectors are not loose, turn ignition off. Remove cluster. Set ignition switch to RUN position. Battery voltage should be present at cluster connector "A" terminals No. 7 (Light Green/Purple wire) and 9 (Purple/Orange wire). Battery voltage should also be present at cluster connector "B" terminal No. 14 (Purple/Orange wire).
- Check continuity and voltage to battery ground circuit at connector "A" terminal No. 8 (Orange/Yellow wire) and connector "B" terminal No. 13 (Orange/Yellow wire). If voltage and continuity are present, replace cluster. Repair circuit No. 797, 298 or 359 as necessary if voltage or continuity are not present.
- Disconnect battery ground cable. Remove cluster. Inspect flexible (printed) circuit traces (traces are double thick) which connect to circuits No. 13 and 14 on "B" connector. If all traces are good, replace cluster. If traces are damaged, replace flexible (printed) circuit.
