Checking Timing
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove accessory drive belts. Remove upper timing belt cover.
- Rotate engine in direction of rotation, and position cylinder No. 1 at TDC of compression stroke. Ensure crankshaft pulley notch aligns with mark on lower timing belt cover.
- Ensure timing mark (No. 1) on camshaft sprocket aligns with timing mark on cylinder head. See Figure. If timing marks do not align as described, rotate engine one revolution and recheck alignment.
- If timing marks still do not align as described, remove timing belt, properly position sprockets, and reinstall.
