Removal & Installation: Engine: Removal
- Disconnect battery ground cable. Mark hinge location, and remove hood. Drain radiator, engine, transmission and power steering. Remove battery, battery carrier, fuse holder, air filter assembly and ducting.
- Remove accelerator cable, throttle valve cable and cruise control cable (if equipped). Disconnect engine and EFI wiring harness. Disconnect wiring at coil, 3 sensors at thermostat housing, O2 sensor, radiator and cooling fan electrical connectors.
- Remove radiator and cooling fan assembly. Disconnect oil cooler lines (A/T). Disconnect clutch release cylinder (M/T), and put aside. On non-turbo vehicles, remove front section of exhaust pipe. Discharge A/C system using approved refrigerant recovery/recycling equipment. Disconnect A/C lines at compressor and A/C clutch electrical connector.
- Disconnect P/S lines, heater hoses and engine ground strap. Disconnect fuel lines. Plug fuel lines to prevent leakage and contamination. Disconnect vacuum lines to brake booster chamber, carbon canister, bulkhead-mounted solenoids and distributor. Disconnect transmission electrical connectors (A/T). Disconnect speedometer cable.
- On turbo models, disconnect turbocharger hoses and pipe. Cover turbocharger with clean shop towel. Disconnect both drive shafts. Disconnect shift control cable (A/T) or rod (M/T). Install engine hoist. Remove engine mounts. Remove engine and transmission as an assembly.
