Cylinder Head: Removal

  1. Remove intake manifold. See INTAKE MANIFOLD . Remove exhaust manifold. See EXHAUST MANIFOLD . Remove timing belt. Refer to TIMING BELT . Remove valve cover.
  2. Rotate engine so No. 1 cylinder is at TDC of compression stroke. Place reference mark on distributor and cylinder head for installation reference. Disconnect vacuum lines and electrical connections. Remove distributor.
  3. Remove engine lifting hooks and engine ground strap. Remove necessary coolant hoses and electrical connections. Evenly remove cylinder head bolts. Remove cylinder head and gasket.
