Cylinder Head: Installation

  1. To install, reverse removal procedure. Ensure cylinder head bolt threads and cylinder block are clean. Ensure proper cylinder head gasket is used for non-turbo and turbo models. See Fig 1.
    CAUTION: Ensure proper cylinder head gasket is used. Different head gaskets are used for non-turbo and turbo models. See Fig 1.
  2. Tighten cylinder head bolts to specification in proper sequence and in 2 steps. See Fig 2. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  table at end of article.
  3. Apply silicone sealant at front and rear housing-to-cylinder head areas before installing valve cover. See Figure. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Refill cooling system.
