Removal & Installation: Camshaft: Removal

  1. Remove timing belt and camshaft sprocket. See TIMING BELT . Remove front and rear housings. See Figure.
  2. Using dial indicator, check camshaft end play. Replace camshaft and/or cylinder head if end play is not within specification. See CAMSHAFT  table under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS at end of article.
  3. Remove rocker arms and valve lash adjusters. See, in this article, ROCKER ARMS & VALVE LASH ADJUSTERS . Mark camshaft bearing cap location for installation reference. Remove camshaft bearing caps, and remove camshaft.
