Valve Guides

  1. Valve guide can be replaced if valve stem oil clearance is not within specification. See CYLINDER HEAD  table under ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS at end of article.
  2. To remove valve guide, heat cylinder head in water to about 194°F (90°C). Using hammer and Valve Guide Remover/Installer (T87C-6510-A), drive valve guide toward camshaft side of cylinder head.
  3. Install valve guide, using valve guide remover/installer, until protrusion is .752-.772" (19.10-19.61 mm) above cylinder head. See Fig 1.
NOTE: Exhaust valve guides are used as replacements for intake valve guides.
