Removal & Installation (Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, Mark VII, Mark VIII, Sable, Taurus & Town Car)

  1. Disconnect battery ground cable and disable air bag system. Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL & HORN PAD  .
  2. Remove upper and lower shrouds. See Figure and Figure . Disconnect key warning switch electrical connector. Using channel lock pliers, twist lock cylinder cap until it separates from lock cylinder.
  3. Using a 3/8" (9.5 mm) drill bit, drill down middle of lock cylinder key slot approximately 1 3/4" (44 mm) until lock cylinder breaks loose from lock cylinder housing.
  4. Remove retainer, washer and lock cylinder gear from bore in lock cylinder housing. See LOCK CYLINDER GEAR  . Remove ignition switch and actuator. Clean and inspect lock cylinder housing. Replace housing if damaged. To install, reverse removal procedure. Check AIR BAG light for system faults.
