Fitting Pistons
- To determine if piston-to-cylinder clearance is within specification, piston skirt diameter is measured at center line of piston at 90 degree angle to piston pin.
- Standard size pistons are color coded Red, Blue or Yellow on the piston dome. If piston-to-bore clearance is in lower one-third of specified clearance, use a Red piston. If clearance is in middle of specified clearance, use Blue piston. The Yellow piston is .004" (.10 mm) oversize.
- Use proper piston to obtain the specified clearance. See PISTONS PINS & RINGS SPECIFICATIONS table in ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS at end of article.
