Removal (Cougar & Thunderbird)
- Disconnect battery ground cable. Remove lower finish panel retaining bolts. Carefully pull finish panel to disengage retaining clips.
- Remove lower reinforcement panel. Remove upper and lower shrouds. See Figure . Disconnect wire from ignition key courtesy light. Disconnect cruise control electrical connector. Disconnect ignition switch electrical connector.
- Disconnect multifunction switch electrical connector. Disconnect steering sensor electrical connector (if equipped). Remove lower pinch bolt from "U" joint at lower end of steering shaft.
- Support steering column. Remove steering column mounting nuts. Disconnect hazard warning electrical connector. Remove starter interlock switch. Remove steering column from vehicle.
