Installation (Cougar & Thunderbird Non-Tilt Wheel)
- Hand press upper shaft bearing and sleeve into lock cylinder housing bearing bore. Slide lock cylinder housing over steering shaft and install 2 lock cylinder housing-to-outer tube retaining bolts. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
- Place a piece of pipe, 3/4" (19 mm) I.D. x 3 1/2" (89 mm) long, over steering shaft. Tighten steering wheel bolt until steering shaft is drawn up into bearing enough to allow installation of new upper bearing retaining ring. Remove retaining bolt and pipe from shaft. Install multifunction switch. Install lower bearing sleeve, sensor ring, spring and new retainer on lower steering shaft. Install column in vehicle.
