Removal (Tempo & Topaz)

  1. Ensure front wheels are in straight-ahead position. Turn lock cylinder to LOCK position. Rotate steering wheel counterclockwise, approximately 16 degrees, until locked.
  2. Disconnect battery ground cable and disable air bag system. Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL & HORN PAD  . Remove upper and lower shrouds. See Figure and Figure .
  3. Disconnect clockspring electrical connector from column harness. If contact assembly is to be re-used, tape contact assembly to prevent rotation. See Figure . Remove contact assembly from upper bearing retainer plate.
