Circuit Test J - Code 32, High Resistance Or Open Circuit In Driver-Side Air Bag Circuit
NOTE:
Before proceeding, follow air bag service precautions. See SERVICE PRECAUTIONS
. After repairs are performed, recheck AIR BAG warning light for other fault codes. Perform system operation check. See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK
.
- INITIAL TEST PROCEDURE - Deactivate SRS. See COMPLETE SYSTEM DEACTIVATION under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Check AIR BAG warning light for codes. See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If AIR BAG warning light indicates Code 32, go to step 2). If AIR BAG warning light does not indicate Code 32, replace driver-side air bag. When repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light for codes with Air Bag Simulator(s) (105-00008) still in place of air bag module(s). See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If system checks okay, reactivate SRS.
- MORE THAN 4 OHMS RESISTANCE OR OPEN IN DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG CIRCUIT - Remove driver-side air bag simulator. Disconnect Gray 3-pin connector at base of steering column. Install air bag simulator on vehicle harness side of Gray connector at base of steering column. Check AIR BAG warning light for codes. See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If AIR BAG warning light indicates Code 32, go to step 3). If AIR BAG warning light does not indicate Code 32, replace clockspring. When repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light for codes with Air Bag Simulator(s) (105-00008) still in place of air bag module(s). See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If system checks okay, reactivate SRS.
- CHECK FOR OPEN IN CIRCUIT NO. 614 (GRAY/ORANGE WIRE) - Remove air bag simulator from vehicle harness Gray connector at base of steering column. Disconnect diagnostic monitor. See Figure . Check resistance between circuit No. 614 (Gray/Orange) at base of steering column (Gray connector) and terminal No. 11 (Gray/Orange wire) at diagnostic monitor Black connector. See Figure . If resistance is less than one ohm, go to step 4). If resistance is more than one ohm, locate and repair open in circuit No. 614 (Gray/Orange wire). Reconnect all disconnected SRS connectors. When repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light for codes with Air Bag Simulator(s) (105-00008) in place. See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If system checks okay, reactivate SRS.
- CHECK FOR OPEN IN CIRCUIT NO. 615 (GRAY/WHITE WIRE) - Check resistance between circuit No. 615 (Gray/White wire) at base of steering column (Gray connector) and terminal No. 10 (Gray/White wire) of diagnostic monitor Black connector. See Figure . If resistance is less than one ohm, replace diagnostic monitor. Reconnect all disconnected SRS connectors. When repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light for codes with Air Bag Simulator(s) (105-00008) still in place of air bag module(s). See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If system checks okay, reactivate SRS. If resistance is more than one ohm, locate and repair open in circuit No. 615 (Gray/White wire). Reconnect all disconnected SRS connectors. When repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light for codes with Air Bag Simulator(s) (105-00008) still in place of air bag module(s). See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If system checks okay, reactivate SRS.
