Circuit Test I - Code 31, All System Air Bag(S) Open

NOTE: Before proceeding, follow air bag service precautions. See SERVICE PRECAUTIONS  . After repairs are performed, recheck AIR BAG warning light for other fault codes. Perform system operation check. See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  .
  1. INITIAL TEST PROCEDURE  - Deactivate SRS. See COMPLETE SYSTEM DEACTIVATION  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. If vehicle is equipped with passenger-side air bag, go to step 6). If vehicle is not equipped with passenger-side air bag, go to step 2).
  2. OPEN IN DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG CIRCUIT  - Check AIR BAG warning light for codes. See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  . If AIR BAG warning light indicates Code 31, go to step 3). If AIR BAG warning light does not indicate Code 31, replace driver-side air bag module. When repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light for codes with Air Bag Simulator(s) (105-00008) still in place of air bag module(s). See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  . If system checks okay, reactivate SRS.
  3. CHECK FOR OPEN CIRCUIT IN CLOCKSPRING  - Remove air bag simulator from driver-side air bag module connector. Disconnect Gray 3-pin connector at base of steering column. Install air bag simulator on vehicle harness side of Gray connector at base of steering column. Check AIR BAG warning light for codes. See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  . If AIR BAG warning light indicates Code 31, go to step 4). If AIR BAG warning light does not indicate Code 31, replace clockspring. When repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light for codes with Air Bag Simulator(s) (105-00008) still in place of air bag module(s). See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  . If system checks okay, reactivate SRS.
  4. CHECK FOR OPEN IN CIRCUIT NO. 614 (GRAY/ORANGE WIRE)  - Remove air bag simulator from vehicle harness Gray connector at base of steering column. Disconnect diagnostic monitor. See Figure . Check resistance between circuit No. 614 (Gray/Orange) at base of steering column (Gray connector) and terminal No. 11 (Gray/Orange wire) at diagnostic monitor Black connector. See Figure . If resistance is less than one ohm, go to step 5). If resistance is more than one ohm, locate and repair open in circuit No. 614 (Gray/Orange wire). Reconnect all disconnected SRS connectors. When repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light for codes with Air Bag Simulator(s) (105-00008) still in place of air bag module(s). See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  . If system checks okay, reactivate SRS.
  5. CHECK FOR OPEN IN CIRCUIT NO. 615 (GRAY/WHITE WIRE)  - Check resistance between circuit No. 615 (Gray/White wire) at base of steering column (Gray connector) and terminal No. 10 (Gray/White wire) of diagnostic monitor Black connector. See Figure . If resistance is less than one ohm, replace diagnostic monitor. Reconnect all disconnected SRS connectors. When repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light for codes with Air Bag Simulator(s) (105-00008) still in place of air bag module(s). See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  . If system checks okay, reactivate SRS. If resistance is more than one ohm, locate and repair open in circuit No. 615 (Gray/White wire). Reconnect all disconnected SRS connectors. When repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light for codes with Air Bag Simulator(s) (105-00008) still in place of air bag module(s). See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  . If system checks okay, reactivate SRS.
  6. OPEN IN BOTH DRIVER & PASSENGER-SIDE AIR BAG CIRCUITS  - Check AIR BAG warning light for codes. See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  . If AIR BAG warning light indicates Code 31, locate and repair open in circuits No. 614 (Gray/Orange wire), 615 (Gray/White wire) and/or 616 (Pink/Black wire). If an open is not found, replace diagnostic monitor. Reconnect all disconnected SRS connectors. When repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light for codes with Air Bag Simulator(s) (105-00008) still in place of air bag module(s). See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  . If system checks okay, reactivate SRS. If AIR BAG warning light does not indicate Code 31, replace both driver and passenger-side air bag module. When repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light for codes with Air Bag Simulator(s) (105-00008) still in place of air bag module(s). See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  . If system checks okay, reactivate SRS.
