Circuit Test C - Code 12, Loss Of Battery Power To Air Bag Firing Circuit
NOTE:
Before proceeding, follow air bag service precautions. See SERVICE PRECAUTIONS
. After repairs are performed, recheck AIR BAG warning light for other fault codes. Perform system operation check. See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK
.
- INITIAL TEST PROCEDURE - Deactivate SRS. See COMPLETE SYSTEM DEACTIVATION under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Disconnect diagnostic monitor. See Figure . Measure voltage between terminals No. 13 (Red/White wire) and 2 (Black wire) of diagnostic monitor Gray connector. See Figure . If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to step 2). If voltage is more than 10 volts, replace diagnostic monitor. When repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light for codes with Air Bag Simulator(s) (105-00008) still in place of air bag module(s). See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If system checks okay, reactivate SRS.
- CHECK FUSE - Inspect No. 5 fuse in fuse block. If fuse is blown, go to step 3). If fuse is okay, go to step 9).
- CHECK FOR SHORT TO GROUND IN CIRCUIT NO. 937 - Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between terminal No. 13 (Red/White wire) of diagnostic monitor Gray connector and ground. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, go to step 4). If resistance is less than 10 ohms, locate and repair short to ground in circuit No. 937 (Red/White wire) between diagnostic monitor Gray connector and fuse No. 13. Reconnect diagnostic monitor connectors. Check AIR BAG warning light for codes. See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If system is okay, reactivate SRS.
- CHECK FOR SHORT TO GROUND IN CIRCUIT NO. 611 - Using an ohmmeter, check resistance between terminal No. 15 (White/Orange wire) of diagnostic monitor Gray connector and ground. If resistance is less than 10 ohms, go to step 5). If resistance is more than 10 ohms, go to step 8).
- CHECK FOR SHORT TO GROUND IN REAR SAFING IMPACT SENS CKT - Disconnect rear safing impact sensor connector. See Figure . Check resistance between terminal No. 15 (White/Orange wire) of diagnostic monitor Gray connector and ground. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, go to step 6). If resistance is less than 10 ohms, locate and repair short to ground in circuit No. 611 (White/Orange wire) between diagnostic monitor connector and rear safing impact sensor connector. Replace No. 5 fuse. Reconnect diagnostic monitor connectors. Check AIR BAG warning light for codes. See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If system is okay, reactivate SRS.
- CHECK FOR SHORT TO GROUND IN CIRCUIT NO. 612 - Check resistance between terminal No. 23 (Purple/Orange wire) of diagnostic monitor Gray connector and ground. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, go to step 7). If resistance is less than 10 ohms, locate and repair short to ground in circuit No. 612 (Purple/Orange wire) between diagnostic monitor Gray connector and rear safing impact sensor connector. Replace No. 5 fuse. Reconnect diagnostic monitor connectors. Check AIR BAG warning light for codes. See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If system is okay, reactivate SRS.
- VERIFY SHORT TO GROUND IN REAR SAFING IMPACT SENSOR - Check resistance between circuit No. 611 (White/Orange wire) and 612 (Purple/Orange wire) of rear safing impact sensor connector and ground. See Figure . If resistance in either circuit is less than 10 ohms, replace rear safing impact sensor and No. 5 fuse. When repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light for codes with Air Bag Simulator(s) (105-00008) still in place of air bag module(s). See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If system checks okay, reactivate SRS. If resistance is more than 10 ohms in both circuits, check for crossed wires at rear safing impact sensor connector and/or diagnostic monitor connectors. Repair wiring as necessary.
- CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT SHORT TO GROUND - If resistance between terminal No. 15 and ground is more than 10 ohms in step 4), replace No. 5 fuse. Reconnect diagnostic monitor connectors. Recheck fuse. If fuse is blown, replace diagnostic monitor and fuse. When repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light for codes with Air Bag Simulator(s) (105-00008) still in place of air bag module(s). See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If system checks okay, reactivate SRS. If fuse is okay, check for intermittent short to ground in circuits No. 937 (Red/White wire), 611 (White/Orange wire) and 612 (Purple/Orange wire). Repair wiring as necessary. When repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light for codes with Air Bag Simulator(s) (105-00008) still in place of air bag module(s). See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If system checks okay, reactivate SRS.
- CHECK FOR PROPER BATTERY VOLTAGE - If fuse is okay in step 2), check voltage at battery. If voltage is less than 10 volts, recharge battery. Reconnect diagnostic monitor connectors. When repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light for codes with Air Bag Simulator(s) (105-00008) still in place of air bag module(s). See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If system checks okay, reactivate SRS. If voltage is more than 10 volts, locate and repair open in circuit No. 937 (Red/White wire) between diagnostic monitor connector and No. 5 fuse and/or circuit No. 38 (Black/Orange wire). When repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light for codes with Air Bag Simulator(s) (105-00008) still in place of air bag module(s). See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If system checks okay, reactivate SRS.
