Service Bulletin

  1. On models equipped with passenger-side air bag, the AIR BAG warning light may stay on in error when glove box is closed. The shorting bars in the passenger-side air bag module connector may not be fully disengaged. To correct this problem, the air bag diagnostic module connector spacer must be adjusted to ensure shorting bars are free to fully disengage.
  2. To adjust the connector spacer, open glove box door and gain access to Blue air bag diagnostic module. Disconnect Gray connector from module. Partially remove Red spacer from Gray connector to expose front part of the 2 shorting bars. See Fig 1 .

  3. Insert a pick into the front locking tang of each shorting bar and push down on pick until the tang is at a 90 degree angle with the shorting bar. This will allow the shorting bar to move forward when the connector is reconnected.
  4. Reinsert Red spacer fully into Gray connector. With the Gray connector disconnected, turn ignition switch to RUN position. The AIR BAG warning light should be on. Wait 20 seconds.
  5. If AIR BAG warning light stays on, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Reconnect Gray connector into air bag module. Go to step 6). If AIR BAG warning light does not stay on, replace Red Spacer and repeat steps 3) and 4), then go to step 6).
  6. After repair is complete and Gray connector is connected, turn ignition switch to ON position. AIR BAG warning light should come on for 10 seconds then go out. Wiggle Gray connector at air bag module. If AIR BAG warning light turns on, recheck repair made on Red spacer. If AIR BAG warning light does not come on, go to step 7).
  7. INITIAL TEST PROCEDURE  - Deactivate SRS. See COMPLETE SYSTEM DEACTIVATION  under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Check diagnostic monitor connectors for proper connection to vehicle wiring harness connectors. If connection is okay, go to step 8). If connection is not okay, clean or repair connector as necessary. When repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light for codes with Air Bag Simulator(s) (105-00008) still in place of air bag module(s). See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  . If system checks okay, reactivate SRS.
  8. VERIFY INOPERATIVE DIAGNOSTIC MONITOR  - Disconnect diagnostic monitor. See Figure . Remove Red locking wedge between terminals of diagnostic monitor Gray connector. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Check AIR BAG warning light. If AIR BAG warning light is on, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Locate and repair short to ground in circuit No. 608 (Black/Yellow wire) between diagnostic monitor connector and AIR BAG warning light. Reinsert Red locking wedge into Gray diagnostic monitor connector. Reconnect diagnostic monitor connectors. When repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light for codes with Air Bag Simulator(s) (105-00008) still in place of air bag module(s). See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  . If system checks okay, reactivate SRS. If AIR BAG warning light is off, reinsert Red locking wedge into Gray diagnostic monitor connector. Replace diagnostic monitor. When repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light for codes with Air Bag Simulator(s) (105-00008) still in place of air bag module(s). See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK  . If system checks okay, reactivate SRS.
