Circuit Test A - Air Bag Warning Light Does Not Light, Inoperative Air Bag Warning Light Circuit
NOTE:
Before proceeding, follow air bag service precautions. See SERVICE PRECAUTIONS
. After repairs are performed, recheck AIR BAG warning light for other fault codes. Perform system operation check. See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK
.
- INITIAL TEST PROCEDURE - Deactivate SRS. See COMPLETE SYSTEM DEACTIVATION under DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM. Disconnect diagnostic monitor connectors. See Figure . Turn ignition switch from off to RUN position. Measure voltage between terminals No. 1 (Dark Blue/Light Green wire) and 2 (Black wire) of diagnostic monitor Gray connector. See Fig 1 . If voltage is more than 10 volts, turn ignition switch to OFF position and go to step 5). If voltage is less than 10 volts, turn ignition switch to OFF position and go to step 2).
- CHECK FUSE - Check No. 18 fuse in fuse block. If fuse is blown, go to step 3). If fuse is okay, locate and repair open in circuit No. 687 (Gray/Yellow wire) between ignition switch and No. 18 fuse and/or circuit No. 964 (Dark Blue/Light Green wire) between diagnostic monitor connector and No. 18 fuse. Reconnect diagnostic monitor connectors. When repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light for codes with Air Bag Simulator(s) (105-00008) still in place of air bag module(s). See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If system checks okay, reactivate SRS.
- CHECK FOR SHORT TO GROUND IN CIRCUIT NO. 964 - Check resistance between terminal No. 1 (Dark Blue/Light Green wire) of diagnostic monitor Gray connector and ground. If resistance is more than 10 ohms, go to step 4). If resistance is less than 10 ohms, locate and repair short to ground in circuit No. 964 (Dark Blue/Light Green wire) between diagnostic monitor connector and No. 18 fuse. Replace No. 18 fuse. Reconnect diagnostic monitor connectors. When repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light for codes with Air Bag Simulator(s) (105-00008) still in place of air bag module(s). See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If system checks okay, reactivate SRS.
- CHECK FOR SHORT TO GROUND IN DIAGNOSTIC MONITOR - Turn ignition switch to OFF position. Replace No. 18 fuse. Reconnect diagnostic monitor connectors. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Recheck No. 18 fuse. If fuse is blown, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Replace diagnostic monitor and No. 18 fuse. When repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light for codes with Air Bag Simulator(s) (105-00008) still in place of air bag module(s). See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If system checks okay, reactivate SRS. If fuse is okay, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Check for intermittent short to ground in circuit No. 964 (Dark Blue/Light Green wire) between diagnostic monitor connector and No. 18 fuse. When repairs are complete, check for air bag codes again. If system checks okay, reactivate SRS.
- VERIFY INOPERATIVE DIAGNOSTIC MONITOR - If voltage is more than 10 volts in step 1), turn ignition switch to RUN position. Check AIR BAG warning light. If AIR BAG warning light is off, turn ignition switch to OFF position and go to step 6). If AIR BAG warning light is on, turn ignition switch to OFF position. Replace diagnostic monitor. When repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light for codes with Air Bag Simulator(s) (105-00008) still in place of air bag module(s). See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If system checks okay, reactivate SRS.
- CHECK FUSE - Check No. 13 fuse in fuse block. If fuse is okay, go to step 7). If fuse is blown, locate and repair short to ground in circuit No. 640 (Red/Yellow wire) between No. 13 fuse and instrument cluster. Replace No. 13 fuse. When repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light for codes with Air Bag Simulator(s) (105-00008) still in place of air bag module(s). See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If system checks okay, reactivate SRS.
- VERIFY IGNITION VOLTAGE AT INSTRUMENT PANEL - Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Check voltage between input wire to No. 13 fuse (Red/Light Green wire) and ground. If voltage is more than 10 volts, turn ignition switch to OFF position and go to step 8). If voltage is less than 10 volts, locate and repair open in circuit No. 16 (Red/Light Green wire). Reconnect all disconnected SRS connectors. When repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light for codes with Air Bag Simulator(s) (105-00008) still in place of air bag module(s). See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If system checks okay, reactivate SRS.
- CHECK AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT - Remove and inspect AIR BAG warning light bulb from instrument cluster. Replace bulb as necessary. When repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light for codes with Air Bag Simulator(s) (105-00008) still in place of air bag module(s). See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If system checks okay, reactivate SRS. If AIR BAG warning light bulb is okay, locate and repair open in circuit No. 640 (Red/Yellow wire) between instrument cluster and No. 13 fuse and/or circuit No. 608 (Black/Yellow wire) between diagnostic monitor connector and AIR BAG warning light. When repairs are complete, check AIR BAG warning light for codes with Air Bag Simulator(s) (105-00008) still in place of air bag module(s). See TESTING - SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK . If system checks okay, reactivate SRS.
