Removal & Installation: Camshaft: Inspection

  1. Inspect valve lifter and bore for damage. Ensure valve lifter O.D., oil clearance, and bore I.D. are within specification. See VALVE LIFTERS  table in ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS at end of article.
  2. Measure camshaft journal O.D., oil clearance, runout and lobe lift. Replace camshaft if not within specification. See CAMSHAFT  table in ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS at end of article.
NOTE: Cylinder head can be machined for oversize camshaft if standard camshaft was previously used and oil clearance is not within specification.
