Pinpoint Test E: Code 49 Or 213
- Check SPOUT Signal At DIS Module Turn ignition off. Install DIS diagnostic cable connector to DIS module vehicle harness connector (terminals No. 1-6). Connect diagnostic cable to breakout box. Use 3.0L/3.8L overlay. Set DVOM on 20-volt AC range. Start engine. Measure resistance between J36 (SPOUT) and J60 (BAT-). If voltage is greater than one volt AC, replace DIS module. If voltage is less than one volt AC, go to step 2).
- Check EEC Side Of SPOUT Connector Turn ignition off. Disengage SPOUT in-line connector plug. Set DVOM on 20-volt AC range. Start engine and measure voltage between J60 (BAT-) and ECA side of SPOUT connector. See Figure . If voltage is greater than one volt AC, go to step 3). If voltage is one volt AC or less, go to step 5).
- Check DIS Side Of SPOUT Connector Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between J36 (SPOUT) and DIS side of SPOUT connector. See Figure . If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open SPOUT circuit between SPOUT in-line connector and DIS module. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to step 4).
- Check SPOUT Circuit Integrity Turn ignition off. Disconnect ECA. Set DVOM on 20-volt DC range. Measure voltage between J60 (BAT-) and ECA side of SPOUT connector. If voltage is greater than 0.5 volt DC, repair SPOUT circuit short to power between in-line connector and ECA. If voltage is 0.5 volt DC or less, go to step 5).
- Set DVOM on 200-ohm scale. Ensure ECA is disconnected. Measure resistance between J36 (SPOUT) and ECA side of SPOUT connector. If resistance is greater than 5 ohms, repair open SPOUT circuit between SPOUT in-line connector and ECA. If resistance is less than 5 ohms, go to step 6).
- Turn ignition off. Install DIS diagnostic cable connector to DIS Module vehicle harness connector (terminals No. 1-6). Ensure ECA is disconnected. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between ECA side of SPOUT connector and J60 (BAT-). If voltage is greater than 0.5 volt DC, repair SPOUT circuit short to power between SPOUT connector and ECA harness connector. If voltage is 0.5 volt DC or less, go to step 7).
- Turn ignition off. Set DVOM on 20-k/ohm scale. Ensure ECA is disconnected. Measure resistance between J60 (BAT-) and ECA side of SPOUT connector. If resistance is greater than 10,000 ohms, replace ECA. If voltage is 10,000 ohms or less, repair SPOUT circuit short to ground between in-line connector and ECA.
