Removal & Installation: Engine: Removal
- Release fuel pressure and disconnect fuel lines. See, in this article, FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE & FUEL LINE CONNECTIONS .
- Drain cooling system. Remove hood, cooling fan, shroud and radiator. Discharge A/C system. Remove air intake tubing. Remove 42-pin connector from retaining bracket on vacuum booster.
- Disconnect 42-pin connector and transmission harness connector. See Fig 1. Disconnect control cables from throttle body. Remove wiper motor assembly from firewall.

- Disconnect necessary electrical connections, coolant hoses and vacuum hoses. Disconnect refrigerant lines at compressor using Spring Lock Coupling Remover (T81P-19623-G1 or G2). Plug line openings.
- Raise and support vehicle. Drain engine oil. Disconnect exhaust pipes from exhaust manifolds. Support exhaust pipes from crossmember using wire. Remove oil cooler line retaining bracket.
- Remove cylinder block-to-transmission support braces. Remove starter. Remove power steering pump with hoses attached and secure aside. Remove plug from cylinder block for access to torque converter nuts. Remove torque converter nuts.
- Remove transmission-to-cylinder block bolts. Remove engine mount through bolts. There are 2 through bolts on left mount and one bolt on right mount.
- Lower vehicle. Support transmission with jack. Remove remaining right engine mount-to-bracket bolt. Using hoist, remove engine.
