Pinpoint Test WA Ground Inputs Warning Never Comes On Or Always Comes On
NOTE:
Charge warning is always on with ignition on and engine off.
- Verifying Condition: Ensure system for which warning comes on is operating correctly. If system is not operating correctly, repair system as necessary. If system operates correctly, go to step 2). If check engine or air bag warning is problem area, go to step 4).
- Observing Prove-Out Mode: Turn ignition on. Note all display segments come on, momentarily go off and return to normal operation. Ground input warning will occur for faulty system. See GROUND INPUT WARNING

- Observing Condition: Turn ignition on and observe warning operation. If warning is always on, go to step 5). If warning does not come on, go to step 8).
- Checking Switch: Turn ignition off to reset warning. Unplug electrical connector from appropriate warning switch/sensor. Turn ignition on. Observe warning light. If warning comes on, go to step 6). If warning does not come on, replace switch/sensor.
- Checking Wiring: Turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Check continuity between instrument cluster connector C2-1, pin No. 4 (Pink/Orange wire) and appropriate connector pin number. See GROUND INPUT WARNING table. No continuity should exist.
- If no continuity exists, replace instrument cluster. If continuity exists, repair short in wiring.
- Checking Switch: Turn ignition off. Unplug connector from associated warning switch/sensor. Connect jumper wire from electrical connector terminal to ground. Turn ignition on.
- If warning comes on, service switch/sensor. If warning does not come on, leave jumper wire connected and go to step 10).
- Checking Wiring: With jumper wire connected, turn ignition off. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Check continuity between instrument cluster connector C2-1, pin No. 4 (Pink/Orange wire) and connector pin for appropriate warning circuit. See GROUND INPUT WARNING table.
- If continuity exists, replace instrument cluster. If no continuity exists, repair open in wiring.
