Pinpoint Test TC Temperature Gauge Display Blanks Out Thermometer Symbol, Displays 2 Top & 2 Bottom Bars

  1. Checking For Temperature Sender Short: Disconnect wiring from temperature sender, located on right side of engine, near No. 1 fuel injector. Turn ignition on. Temperature gauge should indicate cold and only bottom bar should appear.
  2. If temperature gauge indication is okay, replace temperature sender. If temperature gauge indication is not okay, go to step 3).
  3. Checking For Short In Wiring: Disconnect negative battery cable. Disconnect wiring from temperature sender, located on right side of engine, near No. 1 fuel injector.
  4. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Measure resistance between connector C2-2 pin No. 21 (Red/White wire) and C2-1, pin No. 4 (Pink/Orange wire).
  5. If resistance is greater than 15,000 ohms, replace instrument cluster. If resistance is less than 15,000 ohms, check Red/White wire to temperature sender for short circuit.
