Pinpoint Test SA Display Does Not Respond To Buttons - No Beep Sound When Buttons Pressed, No Driver Alert Sounds

  1. Checking Button Function: Buttons function in RUN mode only. Warning chime module will not beep if another sound is being produced. If display does not respond to buttons, go to step 3). If display responds to buttons but no tone occurs, go to step 2).
  2. Checking Warning Chime Module: Check for SAFETY BELT UNFASTENED and KEY IN IGNITION SWITCH warning chimes. If both chimes sound, go to step 13). If chimes do not sound, service warning chime module. Warning chime module is located behind instrument panel, near right side of steering column. Warning chime module has a 10-pin connector with all pins in a single row.
  3. Checking Switch Wiring Connections: Remove finish panel to expose instrument cluster. Ensure all wiring connections are securely attached to instrument cluster. Secure wiring if loose. If connections are okay, go to step 4).
  4. Checking Message Center Switch Module: Unplug connector from message center switch module. Measure resistance between pin No. 1 (Light Blue/Yellow wire) and pin No. 8 (Pink/Orange wire) of message center switch module with no button pressed.
  5. If resistance is 17,300-17,600 ohms, go to step 6). If resistance is not within specification, replace message center switch module.
  6. Checking Message Center Switch Module Buttons: Unplug connector from message center switch module. Measure resistance between pin No. 1 (Light Blue/Yellow wire) and pin No. 8 (Pink/Orange) while pressing each button in turn. See MESSAGE CENTER SWITCH MODULE RESISTANCE SPECIFICATIONS  table.
  7. If resistances are within specification, go to step 8). If resistances are not within specification, replace message center switch module.
  8. Checking Instrument Cluster Wiring Connections: Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Ensure connector C2-2 is properly aligned and secured to instrument cluster. See Figure .
  9. If connection is okay, go to step 10). If connection is defective, repair as necessary.
  10. Verifying Wiring Harness Continuity: Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove message center switch module. See MESSAGE CENTER SWITCH MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  11. Check continuity between pin No. 1 (Orange/Black wire) of message center switch module and instrument cluster connector C2-2, pin No. 30 (Orange/Black wire). Check continuity between pin No. 8 (Pink/Orange wire) of message center switch module and instrument cluster connector C2-1, pin No. 4 (Pink/Orange).
  12. If continuity exists, replace instrument cluster. If continuity does not exist, repair wiring between instrument cluster and switch module.
  13. Checking Tone Circuit: Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition on. Wait for SAFETY BELT UNFASTENED warning chime to end.
  14. Connect jumper wire between instrument cluster connector C2-1, pin No. 11 (Tan/Yellow wire) and ground. If chime sounds, replace instrument cluster. If chime does not sound, check for defective warning chime module or defective wiring between instrument cluster and warning chime module.
  15. Warning chime module is located behind instrument panel, near right side of steering column. Warning chime module has a 10-pin connector with all pins in a single row.
