Pinpoint Test FD CO Displayed, Gauge Blanks Out Fuel Tank Symbol, Lights 2 Top & 2 Bottom Bars Of Fuel Gauge

  1. Checking Fuel Tank Sending Unit Wiring: Disconnect negative battery cable. Lower fuel tank to gain access to fuel tank sending unit. Unplug connector at fuel tank sending unit.
  2. Connect jumper wire between Yellow/White and Pink/Orange wires of fuel tank sending unit harness connector. Reconnect negative battery cable. Turn ignition on.
  3. Check whether CO or CS appears on fuel gauge. If CO appears, go to step 6). If CS appears, remove jumper wire and go to step 4).
  4. Checking Fuel Tank Sending Unit: Turn ignition off. Measure resistance between terminals of fuel tank sending unit. Resistance should be less than 181 ohms (normally 11-168 ohms).
  5. If resistance is greater than 181 ohms, replace fuel tank sending unit. If resistance is less than 181 ohms, check fuel tank sending unit connector for defective terminals or loose connections.
  6. Checking Fuel Tank Sending Unit Wiring At Instrument Cluster. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove instrument cluster. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  7. Connect jumper wire between Yellow/White and Pink/Orange wires of fuel tank harness connector. Using ohmmeter, check continuity between instrument cluster connector C2-1, pin No. 2 (Yellow/White wire) and connector C2-1, pin No. 4 (Pink/Orange wire) of wiring harness.
  8. If continuity exists, replace instrument cluster. If continuity does not exist, repair open in sending unit circuit.
