Oil Pressure Indicator

  1. Turn ignition on. If indicator light is not on, ground oil pressure switch connector. If light fails to come on with lead grounded, check for burned out bulb and/or open in wiring.
  2. If light stays on with engine running, and manual test gauge indicates engine has good oil pressure, unplug oil pressure switch connector. If light goes out, replace oil pressure switch. If light stays on with switch disconnected, check for short in wiring between oil pressure switch and indicator bulb. See appropriate WIRING DIAGRAM in this article.
NOTE: On some models, the ENGINE warning indicator light is controlled by both oil pressure and temperature switches. DO NOT confuse the ENGINE warning light with the CHECK ENGINE light. Temperature switch wire MUST be disconnected before testing oil pressure switch circuit.
