Low Fuel Indicator

  1. When ignition is turned on, fuel pump symbol should light if fuel level is less than 1/4 tank. Indicator should remain off otherwise. If indicator light comes on with more than 1/4 tank of fuel, turn ignition off.
  2. Unplug fuel sending unit connection at tank. Install a 56-ohm resistor between harness connector Yellow/White wire terminal and ground. Set ignition switch to RUN position. Wait 2 minutes. Fuel gauge should indicate about 1/4 tank.
  3. Check indicator light. If indicator light is off, replace anti-slosh module mounted at rear of instrument cluster. If light is on, turn ignition off. Replace 56-ohm resistor with a 33-ohm resistor. Turn ignition to RUN position. Wait 2 minutes. Fuel gauge should indicate about 1/8 - 1/4 tank.
  4. Check indicator light. If indicator light is off, replace anti-slosh module. If indicator light is on, and fuel gauge indicates approximately1/8 - 1/4 tank, fuel gauge and anti-slosh module are okay. Check fuel tank sending unit for intermittent fault.
  5. If indicator light is on and fuel gauge indicates more than 1/4 tank, check operation of fuel gauge. See FUEL GAUGE INOPERATIVE under GAUGES TEST .
