ENGINE Indicator (Mark VII)

  1. On models with only ENGINE indicator light, oil pressure and coolant temperature switches control light operation. Indicator light should come on when ignition is in RUN position (engine off), indicating no oil pressure at switch.
  2. If indicator light does not come on, check bulb, then check wiring from ignition switch to indicator bulb. If no problem is found in wiring, unplug oil pressure switch connector. Connect wire which was removed to ground. If indicator light comes on, replace oil pressure switch. If light stays off, check wiring from oil pressure switch to indicator bulb. See appropriate WIRING DIAGRAM in this article.
  3. If light remains on with engine running and coolant temperature less than 249°F (121°C), unplug connectors from both switches. Light should go off. If indicator light stays on, check both oil pressure and coolant temperature circuits for short to ground from either switch to indicator light.
  4. Reconnect oil pressure switch. If indicator light comes on and oil pressure is okay, replace oil pressure switch. If indicator light remains off when oil pressure switch is reconnected, replace temperature switch.
