Clutch Pack Preload

  1. With side gears removed from differential case, mount one side gear onto Differential Clutch Gauge (T84P-4946-A for 7.5" ring gear, T80P-4946-A for 8.8" ring gear). See Fig 1 .
  2. Assemble clean clutch pack onto side gear without shims. If using new clutch pack, lubricate with Ford Friction Modifier (C8AZ-19B546-A) before installing to gauge base.
  3. Install differential clutch gauge cover onto side gear clutch pack. Torque gauge cover to 60 INCH lbs. (6.7 N.m). See Fig 1 .

  4. Using a feeler gauge, select thickest blade that will fit between gauge and clutch pack. This blade thickness will be the required shim thickness. Repeat procedure for remaining side gear.
NOTE: Lubricate clutch pack with Ford Friction Modifier (C8AZ-19B546-A) before final installation.
