Differential & Axle Shafts: Description
NOTE:
For further information on Traction-Lok differentials, see DIFFERENTIAL - POSITIVE TRACTION
article.
The rear axle is a hypoid design with ring and pinion gear encased in an integral cast iron housing. Differential case and pinion assembly are mounted in axle housing using tapered bearings assemblies. A 1-piece differential case contains a conventional 2-pinion differential assembly. Semi-floating axle shafts are retained by "C" locks at splined end of axle shafts.
