Parking Brake (Shoe & Lining Assembly): Removal

CAUTION: Ensure lever does not damage boot or pull boot out of position.
  1. Remove axle shaft assembly. See AXLE SHAFTS & BEARINGS under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in DIFFERENTIALS & AXLE SHAFTS article in DRIVE AXLES. Disconnect brake cable from lever. Remove brake shoe retaining springs and pins. Set adjuster assembly to shortest length.
  2. Slightly pull shoe assemblies away from backing plate and spread enough to remove adjuster assembly. Remove upper return (adjuster) spring.
  3. Lift shoe assemblies over support and remove shoes and actuating lever as an assembly. Disassemble shoes, lever and springs.
