Parking Brake Cable

The following procedure is to be used only if a new parking brake control assembly is installed.

NOTE: All components of parking brake system must be installed prior to adjustment procedure. The parking brake control with automatic tensioning is preset by means of a shipping clip. The following instructions must be followed in sequence and must be complete with weight on axle.
  1. Verify removal of shipping clip. (Take up reel will apply tension to system.) Function parking brake control by depressing pedal to eight notch.
  2. "PUSH" parking brake control pedal to release. Check as follows:
    • Apply parking brake with a full stroke (ninth or tenth notch). The parking brake control must hold in applied position.
    • Release parking brake by shifting vehicle into forward gear with engine running; control must release. Apply parking brake with a full stroke (ninth or tenth notch). And manually release parking brake with "PUSH" to release feature.
CAUTION: With control in OFF position, rear brakes must not drag. Check for movement of rear cables from their conduits when intermediate cable is deflected with a force of 10-15 lbs.
