Suspension - Rear: Description

The rear axle housing is suspended from frame by 2 upper control arms which control side-to-side movement and 2 lower control arms which control front-to-rear movement. See Fig 1. Each coil spring is mounted between an upper and lower seat. Shock absorbers are attached to upper spring seat or upper shock tower on floorpan and at lower shock brackets welded to axle tube.

Mustang with handling package uses 2 hydraulic axle dampers. These axle dampers are mounted rearward of axle, between axle bracket and frame, to control rotational forces during power applications.
