Speedometer Reads 0 MPH At All Speeds With Vehicle In Motion
- Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Observe display (all segments on, then off, and then normal display). If segments do not operate properly, replace cluster and affix odometer sticker to door pillar.
- If segments operate properly, verify that odometer advances when vehicle is driven forward. If odometer advances, replace cluster and affix odometer sticker to door pillar.
- If odometer does not advance, test drive vehicle. Select TRIP DISTANCE of fuel computer. Distance should advance as vehicle is driven. If distance advances, replace cluster and affix odometer sticker to door pillar. If distance does not advance, go to next step.
- Test drive vehicle and check operation of speed (cruise) control. If speed control operates properly, go to step 9).
- If speed control does not operate or vehicle is not so equipped, disconnect connector to speed sensor. Using Digital Volt/Ohmmeter (DVOM), measure resistance between 2 wires in harness to speed sensor. Resistance should be greater than 500 ohms. If resistance is less than 500 ohms, check wiring of circuit No. 150, speed control, or cluster for short circuits.
- If resistance is greater than 500 ohms, use DVOM to check resistance of speed sensor. Resistance should be 200-230 ohms. If resistance is not as specified, replace speed sensor and check speedometer operation.
- If resistance is 200-230 ohms, disconnect speed sensor from transaxle. Ensure presence of driven gear with all teeth in good condition and presence of retainer clip. If driven gear and/or retainer clip are not in good condition, replace as necessary.
- If driven gear and retainer clip are present and in good condition, ensure presence of drive gear on transaxle output shaft. If drive gear is present, go to next step. If drive gear is not present, service as necessary.
- Reconnect speed sensor wiring. Disconnect battery ground cable. Remove cluster. Using DVOM, check resistance between pins No. 8 and No. 12 of cluster connector "A". Resistance should be 160-230 ohms. If resistance is 160-230 ohms, replace cluster and affix odometer sticker to door pillar. If resistance is not as specified, check connectors and/or wiring from cluster to speed sensor circuit No. 150. Recheck speedometer operation.
