Charge Indicator Light

Charge indicator light should come on when ignition is turned to RUN position (engine not running). Charge indicator light remains on until engine is started and alternator creates enough voltage to energize grounded circuit in voltage regulator to extinguish indicator light.

If indicator light remains on after engine is started, it indicates alternator is not creating enough output voltage or that alternator is creating too much high-output voltage. Battery-current flow is from ignition switch to charge indicator light, through in-line 500-ohm resistor at bulb socket, to internal voltage regulator at alternator.
