Installation (Cougar, Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, Mark VII, Mustang 5.0L, Thunderbird & Town Car)

  1. To install transmission, reverse removal procedure. Ensure torque converter is fully seated in pump. Lubricate torque converter pilot with chassis grease.
  2. Align Orange balancing marks (if present) on torque converter and flexplate. Align torque converter drive studs and drain plug with holes in flexplate.
  3. Adjust manual and downshift linkage. Fill transmission to proper level with ATF. See AUTO TRANS SERVICING article. If any shift rods are disassembled, install new plastic grommets.
