Master Cylinder: Installation

  1. Bench bleed master cylinder. To install, reverse removal procedure. Bleed hydraulic brake system. See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM  .
  2. Check master cylinder compensating ports. Remove master cylinder cover and observe brake fluid. Upon brake application, a small spurt should appear in one or both reservoirs. If no spurt appears, push rod may be improperly adjusted.
  3. On manual brakes, adjust push rod at brake pedal. Push rod should have a slight amount of play when brake pedal is released. On power brakes, see MASTER CYLINDER PUSH ROD  under ADJUSTMENTS.
