Test SC: Speedometer Reads Too High Or Too Low

  1. Check Odometer Accuracy

    Over a known distance, compare odometer reading with distance traveled. If odometer reads normal, system is okay. If odometer is not accurate, go to next step.

  2. Check Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Drive Gear

    Remove Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) from transmission, and ensure correct drive gear is installed for vehicle transmission/axle/tire combination. If correct, go to next step. If not correct, install correct gear and retaining clip.

  3. Check Drive Gear On Transmission Output Shaft

    Ensure correct drive gear is installed on transmission output shaft. If okay, replace Electronic Instrument Cluster (EIC). See ELECTRONIC INSTRUMENT CLUSTER  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If not, install correct drive gear.
