Timing Belt & Sprockets: Removal

  1. Remove timing belt covers. See TIMING BELT COVER  in this article. Rotate crankshaft so the No. 1 on camshaft sprocket is aligned with mark on cylinder head and crankshaft sprocket timing mark is aligned with mark on oil pump housing. See Figure.
  2. Mark timing belt direction of rotation if belt is to be reused. Remove spring from belt tensioner. Remove belt tensioner retaining bolt and belt tensioner. Remove timing belt.
