Removal (Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, Mark VII, Sable, Taurus & Town Car)
- Remove steering wheel. See STEERING WHEEL R & I . Remove contact assembly.CAUTION: Before removing contact assembly, see CONTACT ASSEMBLY R & I .
- Remove steering column. See STEERING COLUMN R & I .
- Remove "U" joint, lower coil spring, sensor ring and lower tolerance ring from lower end of steering shaft. See Figure and Figure. Remove slip ring brush assembly. Note installation position of turn signal cancel cam and remove from steering shaft.CAUTION: Lock cylinder housing is under spring pressure. Hold lock cylinder housing stationary while tilt pivot bolts are being removed to prevent rapid expansion of tilt position spring.
- Remove ignition switch. Remove upper snap ring and upper coil spring. Remove upper tolerance ring. Remove 2 tilt pivot bolts. Remove lock cylinder housing from lock actuator housing.
- To remove upper or middle bearing, support lock cylinder housing and tap out bearing with drift punch and plastic hammer.
