Disc Brake Caliper - Rear (Mark VII): Reassembly

  1. Use clean brake fluid on components during installation, except on parking brake components. Install seal and ensure it is not twisted and is seated in groove. Install new dust boot by seating the flange squarely in outer groove of caliper bore.
  2. Install piston/adjuster assembly in cylinder bore. Spread dust boot over piston and seat in piston groove. Mount caliper in vise. Fill piston/adjuster with clean brake fluid, to bottom edge of thrust screw bore.
  3. Install new thrust screw seal in groove on thrust screw. Using Allen wrench, install thrust screw until top surface of thrust screw is flush with bottom of the threaded bore. Use care not to damage seal. Index thrust screw, so notches on thrust screw and caliper housing are aligned. Install anti-rotation pin.
  4. Apply a liberal amount of Silicone Dielectric Grease (D7AZ-19A331-A), to all components in parking brake mechanism. Install the 3 balls, operating shaft and thrust bearing. While holding operating shaft firmly seated against internal mechanism to prevent mislocation of balls, install end retainer with new seal.
  5. Tighten end retainer. Install parking brake lever with arm down and rearward. Tighten retaining bolt. Using piston remover, bottom piston in bore. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Bleed and adjust brakes as necessary.
