Drum Brakes
Rear drum brakes consist of a backing plate, brake shoes, return springs, hold-down spring assemblies, self-adjuster mechanism and a dual-piston wheel cylinder. The self-adjuster mechanism is built into the parking brake strut and compensates for normal lining wear. Duo-servo automatic adjuster consists of a cable (with spring hook and anchor fitting), cable guide, adjusting lever, lever pivot and adjusting screw (star).
Sable and Taurus use a pressure control valve to control rear wheel lock-up during hard braking. Pressure control valve on sedan models is mounted to left rear floorpan with linkage to lower suspension arm. Pressure control valve on wagon models is screwed into master cylinder.
