Rear Caliper Piston Position - Mark VII

NOTE: On Mark VII models, it is possible to over-adjust rear brakes. A partial brake system failure, with only rear brakes operational, can be encountered. Check and adjust piston position and perform caliper adjustment.

Remove rear wheel. Pull caliper assembly outward until inner disc pad is firmly seated against rotor. Measure clearance between outer disc pad and caliper. Clearance must be .0313-.0938" (.795-2.383 mm). If not within specifications, remove caliper.
Using piston remover, adjust piston to obtain required gap. Rotate remover shaft counterclockwise to narrow gap; clockwise to widen gap. A clearance greater than .0938" (2.383 mm) may allow adjuster to be pulled out of piston when brake is applied. If this occurs, piston/adjuster assembly will then need to be replaced.
