Pinion Flange & Oil Seal: Removal

  1. Raise vehicle. Remove wheel assemblies and brake drums. Scribe alignment marks on companion flange and driveshaft end yoke for installation reference. Remove driveshaft.
  2. Install plug in transmission extension housing to prevent oil leakage. Using an INCH lb. torque wrench, measure and record torque required to rotate pinion through several revolutions.
  3. Mark companion flange or end yoke in relation to pinion shaft for installation reference. Hold companion flange or end yoke and remove pinion nut. Using Puller (T77F-4220-B), remove companion flange. Using a screwdriver, remove pinion seal.
