Locking Hubs - Automatic (Bronco II & Ranger): Installation

  1. Prior to installing locking hub, adjust wheel bearings. See appropoate WHEEL BEARINGS under ADJUSTMENTS  . Install locknut needle bearing and thrust washer in the order of removal and push or press the cam assembly onto locknut while lining up key in cam with spindle keyway.
  2. Install bearing thrust washer, needle thrust bearing and axle shaft spacer. Install snap ring on end of spindle. Install hub body over spindle, lining up the three legs in hub body with three pockets in cam assembly.
  3. Install retainer washer over wheel lug nut studs. Install wheel and tire assembly and tighten lug nuts to specification. Ensure final end play of wheel on spindle is 0.001-0.003 in. (0.02-0.08 mm).
