Description & Operation
The standard instrument panel for all models except Aerostar is available in 2 versions, standard and optional tachometer. Both panels are equipped with voltage/temperature and fuel/oil pressure gauges. Aerostar, Bronco, Bronco II, Ranger and "F" Series use magnetic type gauges to monitor fuel level, coolant temperature and oil pressure. The magnetic gauge system does not use an instrument voltage regulator. "E" Series vehicles use bimetallic type gauges that incorporate an instrument voltage regulator.
The Instrument Voltage Regulator (IVR) controls and maintains an average pulsating voltage of 5 volts, which is delivered to each gauge. To prevent radio interference, a suppression choke is used in-line between printed circuit and IVR.
