Front Cover & Timing Chain: Installation

  1. Apply drop of sealer in crankshaft keyway or to crankshaft key. Install key in crank. Align camshaft sprocket and crankshaft sprocket timing marks. Slide timing chain and sprockets into position. On cranskshaft sprocket with chamfers around keyway, fill keyway chamfer cavity with Threadlock and Sealer (E0AZ-19554-Z), flush with front face of sprocket.
  2. Install camshaft bolt and washer. Ensure flat side of washer faces camshaft sprocket.
  3. Oil timing chain, sprockets and tensioner after installation. Position gasket on cover. DO NOT install front cover oil seal until cover is installed on block.
  4. Install Front Cover Aligner (T84P-6019-C) on crankshaft. Install front cover and gasket. Install front cover bolts and tighten to specifications. Remove aligner.
  5. Coat hub of crankshaft with multipurpose grease. Using Pinion Seal Installer (T83T-4676-A), install new front cover seal. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
